HopeNow creates awareness and empower victims and survivors of trafficking to a better life

What we do

Outreach

Outreach and social work in the prostitution environment on the streets of Copenhagen, in areas of forced labour, in danish prisons, detention centres, asylum centres, departure centres, and churches to identify trafficked people. We document indicators of trafficking and bridge-building between trafficked people and Danish authorities.

Legal and Empowerment Counselling

Legal advice, therapeutic support and trauma therapy so that individuals can process trauma and gain improved self-esteem. We were awarded the European Crime Prevention Award in 2014 by the EU Crime Prevention Network (EUCPN) for setting a legal precedent for our preventive work against human trafficking.

Support for Rehabilitation and Reintegration

Trafficked people are highly vulnerable to re-trafficking immediately after exiting a trafficking situation and en route to assistance. Victims of trafficking are frequently re-trafficked within two years or less of escaping a trafficking situation. We offer free meals, personal care necessities, and referrals to medical support.

Teaching and Awareness raising

As soon as we have documentation and evidence of trafficking, we do our best to teach and raise awareness of trafficking through lectures and events in all of Denmark, as well as lobby and advocacy work for the rights and protection of trafficked people.

Our Story

Since its creation in 2007, HopeNow’s sole objective has been to ensure empowerment and assistance for victims and survivors of trafficking.

Its story is about a human rights lawyer and a trauma therapist teaming up for justice for victims and the empowerment of survivors of human trafficking.  Anne Brandt Christensen was the chairwoman of the Board from 2007 to 2016, and she is now part of HopeNow’s advisory Board. Michele Mildwater is still the director of HopeNow.

Who we are

HopeNow is founded on expert knowledge about human trafficking, outreach and identification. We create awareness and empower victims and survivors of trafficking to a better life.

HopeNow remains a dynamic NGO that counsels, supports and empowers victims of human trafficking, develops new methods and analyse new tendencies within the area. Over the years, HopeNow has contacted and screened more than 13,000 persons and provided support to more than 3000+ individuals.

HopeNow is a partner under the Danish Action Plan to Combat Human Trafficking and receives government funds to do outreach work and identify victims of trafficking. HopeNow works closely with its partners – Center against Human Trafficking, Ami Ami and Reden International, partners under the Danish Action Plan.
