The Case of Amanda

Amanda’s story:

I am from an impoverished family in South America. My childhood was plagued by sexual exploitation, starting when I was just six years old and raped for the first time. At the age of 17, I was trafficked to Japan and forced into prostitution. In order to regain my freedom, I had to earn a staggering $100,000.

After finally attaining my freedom, I sought refuge in Spain, where I worked as a prostitute without the influence of traffickers. However, my experiences had hardened me and stripped away any remaining innocence. Unfortunately, the economic crisis in Europe made it difficult to earn a living. When an opportunity arose to work in a Danish brothel, I reluctantly accepted, having been assured that Denmark was a safe haven away from traffickers and criminal networks.

To my dismay, history repeated itself as I found myself trafficked once again, just as I had been when I was 17. I was coerced into working to pay off my debts, while the brothel owners created additional expenses for me to repay. They forced me to engage in various activities such as providing erotic images for a website, transportation, newspaper advertisements, and paying exorbitant rent. The other girls in the brothel lived in fear and were controlled through mental and physical threats. I was confined to their premises and denied the freedom to come and go as I pleased.

Thankfully, HopeNow came into my life and helped me overcome the shock and trauma that these experiences had left behind. Despite being an intelligent woman who had encountered various paths in life, I found myself once again exploited by a group of traffickers. However, HopeNow restored my courage and provided me with vital medical treatment. They even covered the cost of my tickets so that I could return to Spain.

With their support, I began to regain control over my life. I contemplated writing a book to share my story, knowing that I had the strength to take charge of my destiny. Although I am grateful for the help I received, I am reminded that the fight against trafficking and exploitation is an ongoing battle. Through it all, HopeNow remains a beacon of hope, empowering survivors like myself to reclaim their lives.
