HopeNow Projects

Ongoing Project since 2011

Trustbased Outreach among Victims and Potential Victims of Trafficking, 2011-current project
At HopeNow, we understand the pressing need for victim support. HopeNow collaborates with the Danish Center Mod Menneskehandel and the Immigration Service on an ongoing project to assist victims of human trafficking. This ongoing project receives both private funding and public grants from The Gender Equality Department. Our diverse outreach efforts aim to impact the lives of trafficking victims in various settings, such as streets, prisons, detention centers, and asylum centres. We tirelessly work to guide and support those in vulnerable situations. Furthermore, we engage with the African Sub-Saharan diaspora through social activities by invitation. Between 2011 and 2021, our dedicated team conducted identification interviews to provide trafficked people with immediate and comprehensive support, connecting victims with relevant authorities who can offer social and economic assistance. Since 2022, it’s only governmental agencies that can conduct identification interviews.

Project: Identification of trafficking victims in escort and prostitution

Identification of trafficking victims in escort and discreet/private prostitution: Knowledge and methods, 2018-2021
The project aimed to gather crucial knowledge on trafficking for escorts and private prostitution, reaching out to elusive victims who were overlooked by existing social and healthcare services. This effort was incredibly successful, producing positive outcomes that extended beyond its initial goals. Notably, the project played a vital role in providing essential support to a greater number of previously overlooked and unsupported victims. Through the "Action Plan to Combat Trafficking in Human Beings 2015-2018," these individuals were given a lifeline. Additionally, the project fostered new forms of cooperation among key actors in the field, acting as a catalyst for method development.

Pilotproject, 2015

Testing trustbased outreach to potential victims of human trafficking
The identification process played a pivotal role in the pilot project aimed at combating human trafficking. It served as a gateway to multiple benefits for victims, including legal recognition, access to a reflection period, and prepared repatriation. This pilot project placed great importance on outreach work, victim identification, information dissemination, social work, and collaboration with various stakeholders. The project focused on outreach work for potential human trafficking victims: Identifying and supporting victims by providing vital information about government assistance programs, including repatriation and reintegration options. Engaging in social work to develop effective methods of intervention. Sharing knowledge and collaborating with other civil and state actors in the field.

Project: HAART Kenya, 2014-2018

HopeNow developed and ran two projects funded by CISU in Kenya in close partnership with the Kenyan NGO HAART. HAART works within the human trafficking area as well. The projects were in cooperation with CISU and funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Together with HAART HopeNow, awareness programs were developed in schools, villages and slum areas in Kenya to prevent Kenyan men and women from being exploited and trafficked to Europe. HAART produced a toolkit as part of the awareness programs.

The partnership began in 2014, and the funding received by HopeNow from 2015 to 2017 continued the collaboration and strengthened the partnership. The project's goals included working with local authorities, raising awareness in communities, and enhancing the skills of professionals in the field in Kenya. Additionally, the project focuses on rehabilitating and empowering trafficking victims to regain control over their lives. HAART has played a crucial role in advocating against human trafficking in Kenya and improving the well-being of trafficking victims in the country.
